Light bulbs die my sweet. I will depart. - Magorium

Thankful Thoughts

It was the weekend before Harmony got sick.

The hub-a-dub and I work at the same place and we commute daily together.

On the way to work we talk about how well we slept, what our schedule entails for the day and commenting on the things we see during our country commute.

Our drive home usually consists of our reflections of how the day went. This particular Friday we were quiet. I looked over at the hub-a-dub and asked, “Whatcha thinkin’?”

I KNOW! I KNOW! It is a cliché, but I still asked him anyway. But he surprised me with his response. He said, “I was just thinking about how perfect things are right now. I sit on the couch to watch TV, you’re by my side and I’ve got a dog on each foot. I don’t need anything else in my world.” Oh my gosh, he just melted my heart.

But ya know, I’m a good ole southern gal and we have many sayings and superstitions, one of which is “Don’t jinx things.”

It was just 3 weeks from that statement when our Harmony got her wings, never-ever saw that one coming.

With that said, there’s a lot I have to be thankful for . . .  but I ain’t sayin’ it!!!

I’ll just give one big ole “THANK YOU” and wake each morning with a grateful heart.

Happy Thanksgiving y'all!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. I know these holidays are going to be tough for you and hubby since they will be the first without your precious Harmony. It will be tough as well for me and my husband as they will be our first without our boy Leland.

Just know that we are all here for each other to lean on. Life sure is a roller coaster ride that’s for sure. I do think it’s a blessing how the illnesses that your Harmony and my Leland dealt with led us to this great community. I don’t know how I would have managed with the grief if I didn’t have the folks here to lean on and share my Leland with.

For that I’m thankful this Thanksgiving.

I am so totally on the same page as you. One day I think I’ve got a good handle on everything and then all it takes is just the smallest thing to send me into a blubbering mess.

Sometimes I think I’m turning the corner, but above all I believe I’m just learning how to deal with grief in general. I also concur with you regarding Tripawds, I don’t know how on earth I would/could cope if it wasn’t for this community. Sometimes I feel bad that I can’t provide any more support on how to take care of a Tripawd since Harmony wasn’t one for very long. Therefore, I’m trying to concentrate my support for anyone on the emotional level, just as soon as I get a handle on it myself! LOL!

I think of you and your Leland (and Lucian) everyday on our way to work. We pass this house that has a Doberman in their fenced side yard. He (she?) is always standing at the fence waiting for someone to come out and bring him in. I don’t know his story, and he doesn’t looked abused or anything like that, he’s just a constant reminder that they’re just not “dogs”, they’re family members and they always want to be with their pack.

Any-hoo, thank you for your sweet note. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and we’ll both get through all of this. I’m always here for you.<3

That’s so sad to hear that somebody would just leave their Dobie outside. The public’s perception that this breed is aggressive, standoffish, and loners is FAR from the truth. Dobie’s are often referred to as “velcro dogs” and that analogy is spot on. They LOVE being around their “pack”. Both Leland and Lucian are major “love bugs”. The loyalty and watchfulness of this breed to their pack is amazing.

It’s sad that the Dobie you pass in the mornings is just left outside by itself when it’s obvious he/she wants to be with its human pack. Hopefully they just let him/her out for a potty break but even then I’m always with Lucian just like I was with Leland.

Well…I hope you had a nice holiday.

Awww. I’m with ya on that one, being somewhat superstitious myself.

Hope you guys had a relaxing Turkey Day, being there for each other with Angel Harmony watching over you.
